Tun Tavern Sculpture With USMC Revolutionary War Figures And Illuminated With Color-Changing Lights – Some 250 years ago, November 10, 1775 to be exact, in an establishment known as Tun Tavern on the cobbled streets of Philadelphia, the United States Marine Corps was formed by special decree of the Second Continental Congress. The American Revolution was just months old, necessitating that “two battalions of Marines be raised” to defend the country by land, by sea, by whatever means necessary to ensure our freedom. From that day forward, the Marines have been a distinctive – and distinguished – branch of the United States military, with a global reach far beyond the Pennsylvania street where the tavern stood until it burned down in 1781. Today, a commemorative marker identifies the location of this foundational meeting. But now, with this hand-painted Tun Tavern sculpture, our master artisans have made it possible for you to show your appreciation for the USMC and honor this landmark event in the history of the Corps. Exquisitely painted by hand, it features a fully sculpted building recalling the Colonial-era structure of Tun Tavern, intricate scenery and miniature figures of a Marine regiment dressed in the uniforms of the day.
